Discover Hospitality Programme - Certificate 3 in Hospitality Management

The Universal Foundation invites applications for the 7th batch of its Discover Hospitality Programme (Certificate III in Hospitality Management), offering Maldivian youth a pathway into the hospitality industry. Applications close on June 30, 2025, and 20 candidates will be selected. Starting in July 2025, the programme is conducted in partnership with Villa College, combining theoretical learning with practical experience through internships at Universal Resorts. A total of 20 opportunities would be provided to Maldivian youth.

Participants will gain hands-on industry exposure and be assessed independently to ensure quality training. Open to those aged 17 and above, the programme offers a monthly stipend of MVR 3,000 during internships to ease financial pressure.

Applicants must have completed Basic Education (Grade 6/Key Stage 2) or hold a Level 2 qualification. Alternatively, candidates aged 18 who can communicate in the language of instruction may also apply. Fully funded by the Universal Foundation, successful graduates will earn an MQA Level 3 certificate.

Certificate 3 in Culinary Arts

The Universal Foundation is offering 10 fully funded scholarships to Maldivian youth for the Certificate III in Culinary Arts programme. This course combines theoretical lessons at Villa College with practical internships at Universal Resorts, providing a comprehensive learning experience tailored to the needs of the hospitality and tourism industry. Students will gain knowledge of culinary concepts and principles, along with hands-on experience using industry-standard equipment and techniques.

The programme covers essential areas such as food safety and sanitation, culinary math, equipment use, and security protocols. Core modules include culinary fundamentals, food nutrition, stocks and sauces, meat and seafood preparation, baking, garde manger, and both dry and moist heat cooking methods. Students will also complete an industrial placement to apply their skills in real kitchen settings.

The course aims to build students’ technical and interpersonal skills while promoting professionalism, workplace ethics, teamwork, and sustainability. Upon completion, graduates can pursue further studies in baking and pastry or begin their careers as Commis Level 1 chefs, with opportunities to progress into Level 4 culinary programmes.

Eligibility requires either completion of Basic Education (Grade 6/Key Stage 2), a Level 2 qualification, or being 17 years old with the ability to communicate in the language of instruction. A stipend of MVR 3,000 is provided during the internship.
